What Flowers to Send for a Birthday in LA
For a birthday, send bright seasonal stems in the recipient's own colors, arranged loose rather than tight. Adore Flowers builds every arrangement the morning it ships and delivers across Los Angeles the same day on orders placed before 11 AM, Monday through Saturday.
A birthday is the one occasion where the gift should look like the person receiving it. That means palette first, then stems, then scale. This guide covers what to pick, how big to go, what to write, and when to order in Los Angeles.
What flowers are best for a birthday?
Bright seasonal stems with texture: dahlias, garden roses, ranunculus, tulips, and lisianthus. Each holds its shape in a warm room, which matters when flowers sit out on a table all evening.
The Society of American Florists records the ranunculus as meaning radiant, and lists a color meaning for almost every stem a florist carries. Yellow tulips read as hopelessly in love, pink carnations as gratitude.
Skip lilies unless you know they are wanted. They are heavily scented in a small room and their pollen stains fabric on contact.
In six years at the bench, the birthday arrangements people talk about afterwards are the loud ones. Restraint is for a boardroom.
Should birthday flowers match their favorite color?
Yes, when you know it. A palette someone already loves reads as personal before they open the card.
Warm and saturated suits a celebration. Blush and cream suits someone quieter. If you have no idea, ask for a designer's choice and we choose at the bench that morning.
Color beats stem choice here. Nobody remembers which variety of dahlia arrived; they remember that the flowers were their green, or their orange.
How big should a birthday arrangement be?
Match the scale to the milestone. A fortieth earns a piece that holds a room; a Tuesday birthday for a friend across town does not.
Our birthday collection starts at $150 and leaves the studio the same day on orders before 11 AM, Monday through Saturday. Sizes run $150, $200, $300, and $400, and every piece is set in a permanent vessel our designer chooses to suit it.
How long will birthday flowers last?
Five to seven days in a typical Los Angeles room, longer if it stays cool. Illinois Extension puts carnations and mums nearer two weeks, and gerbera daisies and roses under one.
Keep the vessel out of direct sun and away from any heat source. Change the water every two or three days, or whenever it clouds, and that is the whole routine.
Do flowers actually change how a birthday feels?
The evidence says they change the moment of handover. In a Rutgers study of 147 women reported by the Society of American Florists, every participant answered a delivery with a genuine smile.
Participants also reported feeling less depressed and anxious afterwards, and contacting family and friends more. It is a modest finding. It is also the entire job of a birthday delivery.
What should you write on a birthday card?
Name one specific thing about them, then make the wish. Two lines beat a paragraph.
Every Adore order includes a hand-written note. I write them at the bench before the arrangement goes into the van, which is why we ask for the message at checkout rather than after.
A private joke lands better than a greeting. So does naming the year, if the year is a big one.
Can you send birthday flowers to an office or a hotel?
Yes to both, as long as the order carries the right routing details. For a workplace, add the company name, the floor or suite, and the recipient's name so reception can pass it along.
For a hotel, use the guest name exactly as the reservation reads, plus the stay dates. Our guides to office flowers and sending flowers to a hotel guest cover the rest.
