Are flowers allowed in maternity and NICU units?

Not reliably, and the NICU is the clearest no. UCLA Mattel Children's Hospital publishes that no live plants are permitted in the NICU, and that no balloons of any kind are allowed there either.

Keck Hospital of USC publishes that visitors may not bring fresh flowers into its CCU, IMCU or NICU. Most Los Angeles hospitals set these rules unit by unit rather than campus-wide.

Postpartum floors are usually more relaxed than the NICU, but plenty of hospital pages say nothing at all about flowers. That silence is not permission, so call the unit or send to the house.

Do new baby flowers have to be pink or blue?

No, and the themed version rarely looks like anything. Whites, creams, soft greens, and one gentle brightness suit any family.

If you know the parents' taste, use it instead. Colors from their kitchen will outlast colors from a baby aisle.

Keep the scent light either way. A newborn's room is small, often closed, and already carrying enough smells.
